"Waiting with Expectancy" by Matthew Linehan

Waiting with Expectancy

Before I was saved, I tried to make things happen on my own. I tried to get sober, I tried to find a girl, I tried to get my nurse’s license back, I tried to be happy. What I didn’t realize is that God has a plan for all of us. I also realized as it says in the scripture that He will give us the desires of our hearts.

“Seek first the Kingdom of God and ALL these things (The desires of our hearts) WILL be added to you.” Matthew 6:33.

The challenge with this scripture of course is WHEN WILL IT BE ADDED GOD?

So, after I was saved, I started doing what my Pastor told me to do. He tells us to declare things as we desire them to be. If you want something…thank God for already giving it to you.

So, I started making declarations like:

“Thank you, Jesus, for bringing a beautiful, loving Christian woman into my life!”

“Thank you, Jesus, for bringing a brand-new Toyota Camry into my life!”

“Thank you, Jesus, for bringing me an awesome, well-paying career!”

“Thank you, Jesus, for bringing a big, beautiful house that I will live in!”

And then you know what I did? I went about my life living as though these declarations were already mine. I didn’t worry about a beautiful wife, car, career or a house because I believed in my heart that they were mine.

It says in the scripture, “In due season, you will reap the harvest of the good things of God.” Galatians 6:9

I used to get up at 5:30 am in the morning to catch a bus at 6:30 am for an hour-long bus ride to get to work by 8:00 am. I would bring my church clothes with me. After work I would change into my church clothes and then catch a bus from work to Lakewood for class or service. After work I would ride the bus home and get home around 10:00 pm. Then I would get up the next morning and do it all over again. Each time I got on that bus I would say, “Thank you Jesus for letting me ride this bus today. Thank you that my beautiful, brand new Toyota Camry is on it’s way.

Guess what I drive to church today? A brand-new Toyota Camry. Guess who I’m married to? A beautiful Christian woman. Guess where I work? An awesome company? Guess where I live? In a big beautiful house!

So, if you’re struggling today and are impatient about when it’s going to be your turn…I’m here to tell you to stop wondering and start thanking Him.

Thank you, Jesus, that you are faithful. Thank you for giving me the desires of my heart. Thank you for saving my life! In Jesus’ Name! Amen!
