Thank you Jesus for my first Spiritual Mentor, Pastor Elvin Craig. While I was at the Salvation Army and the guys from Lakewood came to teach us "Quest" on Monday nights, Pastor Elvin Craig reached out to me. "Do you have a Mentor?" he asked me. "No," I replied. "Well you do now," Elvin said. And that was it. The beginning.

I started meeting with Elvin on a weekly basis after I got out of treatment and got my own apartment in July of 2015. I would ride the bus to Lakewood 4 days a week like I said. On Sunday mornings I would show up at 9:00 am and meet with Pastor Elvin at 9:30 am. We usually met for 30 minutes. Elvin would give me intense reading assignments like, "I want you to read 1 John "50" times. After you've read it we will discuss it." He also recommended that I pray in the Spirit for an hour a day. That's how it started. What did this do for me? Well first of all it gave me a solid foundation with Christ coming right out of my 8th Treatment Center. It also showed me that there are loving, caring Christian men out there that are willing to take time out of their busy schedule to disciple younger men for the Kingdom of God.

So this step was a very, very vital step in my recovery. I did take a year off from meeting with Elvin due to my schedule. I did however recently start to meet with him again. I am glad I did. Another thing. If you start working with someone and you find that you don't mesh well with that person or you have a hard time scheduling meetings then please keep looking until God puts that right person in your life. Believe me it will be well worth it.

Thanks and we love you!
